Robotic surgery as the name suggests involves the use of technologically advanced equipment that allows the surgeon with the most precision and accuracy while performing the surgery.
So, when defined properly robot-assisted surgery, is a minimally invasive technique that involves the use of different equipment. This technique allows complex procedures with more precision, flexibility, and control than is possible with conventional techniques. This technique involves tiny incisions, less tissue damage, and faster recovery. However, the success of the procedure not only depends on the technological equipment but the robotic surgery specialists in India also, as they are the one who performs it.
Significance of da Vinci surgical system
Robotic surgery with the da Vinci Surgical System got the green signal from the Food and Drug Administration in 2000. The technique got much popular and was adopted by hospitals in the United States and Europe for use in the treatment of a wide range of conditions. It is one of the most used clinical robotic surgical systems which includes a camera arm and mechanical arms with surgical instruments attached to them. Most importantly, it allows the surgeon to control the arms while seated at a computer console near the operating table. The console allows the surgeon for a high-definition, magnified, 3-D view of the surgical site. However, it is the team of surgeons that leads to executing the whole process.
Types of robotic surgeries
- Robotic Gynecologic Surgery
Many a time, robotic gynecologic surgery is beneficial for women as open gynecologic surgery involves a large incision made in the abdomen so a surgeon can access the uterus and surrounding anatomy. This can cause significant pain, physical trauma, and a long recovery process. The potential advantages of laparoscopic and robot-assisted laparoscopic hysterectomy and other gynecologic procedures over conventional open surgery include smaller incisions that may result in less post-operative pain, reduced blood loss, and less need for blood transfusions, and a potentially faster recovery and return to normal activities.
- Robotic Prostate Surgery
According to a study, for prostate cancer treatment can be very effective as a radical prostatectomy which usually involves the surgical removal of the prostate and surrounding cancerous tissues. There are generally three approaches applied i.e. open surgery or laparoscopic or robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery in which the latter is best.
- Robotic Kidney Surgery
The da Vinci surgical system is used to perform robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery for kidney patients. As this involves utmost precision and accuracy these patients now have a laparoscopic option both for radical and partial nephrectomy.
- Robotic Colorectal Surgery
This involves the removal of cancerous portions of the colon and rectum, as well as benign tumors and polyps. The approach provides surgeons with the tools to connect the two ends of the colon after the cancer has been removed. The procedure can be executed with a few tiny incisions, rather than the one long incision used in traditional open colon surgery.
- Single-Site Robotic Gallbladder Surgery
These kinds of diseases involve self-management and a healthy lifestyle. However, in some cases, best doctors advise the patient for cholecystectomy, which is surgery to remove the gallbladder. Although minimally invasive cholecystectomy has been used is not rare, and involves one incision, in the navel made to perform the surgery.

Why robotic surgery is a better option?
Robot-assisted surgery is the result of technological advancement so, due to its minimally invasive approach, the patient does not have to go through a lot of pain or less tissue damage which allows a faster recovery. Also due to its maximum precision and flexibility, it gives the best results.
On the other hand, the conventional technique is a manual technique that is performed by a team of surgeons. It involves long incisions, tissue damage, and a longer hospital stay and recovery period.
So, if you are giving a second thought even when you are advised by the doctor then no need for it as the procedure is safe and offers less pain and fast recovery. One can immediately go for the procedure in the best hospital in Maharashtra.
